The cerulean sky – asmān or आसमान or آسمان is the inspiration behind Aasmani. Many people have asked us the rationale behind the name Aasmani By Arundhati. To start with, we love the blue sky! The sky to us symbolizes a vast expanse with endless possibilities. Our foray into the world of textiles started with natural indigo – the magical dye that has kept the world mesmerized ever since the days of the Indus Valley civilization, and even beyond.
We started working with natural indigo and in parallel, discovered our love for the handwoven jamdani. As of today we work directly with skilled handloom weavers and artisans across several districts of West Bengal to create a range of clean, eco-friendly handwoven and handcrafted textiles.
Aasmani’s journey started in 2018, when Arundhati decided to take her love for Indian textiles to the level of professional engagement. Her prior experience of working with rural communities helped her to connect with grassroots weavers and artisans easily. Today we are known for our handwoven jamdani products, and hold a Craftmark certification for jamdani weaving – a testimony to our authenticity and Fair Trade practices. We love to travel across the country, visit weaving and craft clusters, interact with the artisan communities, and come back inspired.
